| Notes | ID: CROSBY2001; Recently published (February 2001) results of a survey of 139 occupiers, mainly of significant (200+) portfolios (not all leasehold) and equally spilt between International Corporates, UK Corporates and the public sector. A "significant minority" (27%) believe the UK leasing system is unsatisfactory (too inflexible and too geared to long lease terms) and undermines their ability to operate effectively. Corporate occupiers hold that view significantly more strongly, whereas many public sector officers are more concerned with accounting rules that prohibit longer term leases. Overall this report presents the most comprehensive survey of the market we know of online. Many involved in lease agreements may say 'yes we know that's how it is' but the statistical evidence deserves the attention of market and policy makers. |
