Notes ID: ANON2000; Contains, (without acknowledging a source) the following statistic $There are over 10 million office workers in the UK. They work in over 200 million square metres of office space representing an investment of more than £120 billion in capital. The basic occupancy costs of this space is about £10 billion per annum. The average occupancy of an office desk is around 10%, taking into account non-working hours as well as working hours when the occupant is away from the desk. Most space is allocated to senior staff who are often absent, and the least space allowed for junior staff who are always there. At between £1,500 and £15,000 per annum for each staff member, premises costs are the largest item in most organisations' budgets after staff costs. $Overall a useful and impartial survey of flexible working in the UK.
