| Notes | ID: ANON2001A; To cite their introduction $ The Workplace Forum is a global workplace intelligence network working to increase understanding of the relationship between the workplace and organisational performance through the effective integration of ICT, human resources and the physical environment $In strict terms this is not a fully 'public domain' site. Subscription to the Forum costs £1,000 p.a. per organisation. Trial access is however available and users can find case studies stressing the role of the modern environment in facilitating creativity. St Lukes features strongly. Three interesting points are made about their collaborative culture and workspace, first that trust is a prerequisite of creativity, second that their staff turnover, at 10% p.a. is well below the industry average of 25%, and third that their 'client rooms' themed, and paid for, by particular clients increase client retention. A working paper by Frank Duffy on what e commerce may mean for coporate real estate design reiterates the messages of post taylorist workplaces but point out that Silicon Valley houses offices with 'row upon row' of cubicles; a phenomenon Duffy blames on supplier power and user demand for maximum speed and flexibility from a standard product. The sceptic could say that design is less important than claimed by designers and the benefits remain unproven. The debate, and the lack of evidence, go on.$$ $$ |
