| Notes | ID: WEATHERHEAD1997; A comprehensive review, likely to already be on many bookshelves. Weatherhead writes, firstly for those who would make business real estate management a board issue and secondly those who might aspire to be on such boards in the future. The emphasis is on value and the buy / lease decision in times of low inflation rather than on the direct impact of the built environment on the business process. Hence a series of valuable case studies, including the beginnings of IBM's reduction of property costs, and implementation of flexible workspaces as a response to their busines problems between 1990 and 1992 are treated as a cost/asset issue (and probably were at the time). Ten years on those same offices become a knowledge and productivity issue and IBM is reconceived as a different company.$$ $$ |
