| Notes | ID: CLEMENTSCROOME2000H; This book is based on the premise that 70-90% of the costs of running an organisation are the salaries of the workforce. Therefore a small increase in worker productivity can have a high financial returns for the business. It presents a collection of papers from a number of authors with different backgrounds, seeking a multi disciplinary review of the factors that affect productivity. The books consists of 6 Parts: Part 1: Creativity, environment and people Part 2: The economic case for productivity Part 3: The nature of productivity Part 4: Concentration and thinking Part 5: Case studies Part 6: The Future The book is a good collection of different perspectives on the topic of a productive workplace and probably reflects the current mainstream work on the area. Disappointingly, at least to a reviewer concerned with business and managerial issues the large majority of the papers are technical rather than organisation. Only two writers (Neauman and Duffy) even mention organisational culture.$$ $$ |
