| Notes | ID: SUTHERLAND2000A; A more forceful claim is made than in Sutherland and Coopers book for the potential impact of the workplace on reduction of stress. "While the concept of 'healthy individual- healthy organisaiton' is not enshrined in legilation, common law and general duties under Section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work act 1974 require employers to ensure the health, safety and welfare at work of their employees as far is reasonably practicable." p.88 "Organisations must begin to identify negative occupational stress and work to remove or minimise these problems. A stress audit (also recognised as a psycholocical risk assessment) is required to identify sources of stress and inform action. Recent audits show a clear role for those involved in the design and planning of productive environments. In this way they can contribute to a proactive organisational approach to stress mangement wchich aims to prevent problems and the need to rely on costly, often ineffective curative strategies that are currently used to keep people healthy, happy and productive at work."$$ $$ |
