Barriers to productivity are identified, by Audrey Kaplan,$ "as being interruptions; discomfort; illness symptoms; a lack of privacy; resources constraints and the corporate culture"$,p336-335. Kaplan states that productivity is dependant on : - the physical facilities and infrastructure -facilities management and pratices -occupant behaviour -the management approach . The paper concludes with several common themes: -Productivity is influenced by a number of factors including the environment -It is posssible to assess and measure producitvity in absolute or comparative terms - It is possible to identify sources of stress -Critical influences have an effect on our behaviour; such as: personal control, responsiveness, building depth and work groups. -Buildings should be a multi-sensory experience -Facilities managers have a responsiblity for the various user groups. -Individuals need to manage their own daily rhythems: In this way productivity will rise and people will be more fullfilled. $$ $$
